Role of class 1 Integron in prevalence extended-spectrum beta-lactamases of class D (oxa-2 , oxa-10) along with determining antibiotic resistance pattern in Pseudomonas strains isolated from clinical specimens
Authors
Abstract:
Aim and Background:Eradicating infections is difficult due to the presence of genes on the introns, especially the beta-lactamase enzymes and The importance of their resistance is high. The purpose of this study was to determine the beta-lactamase genes (OXA-2 , OXA-10) , Integron class 1 and antibiotic resistance. Material and methods:In this cross sectional descriptive study, 120 Pseudomonas isolates were collected from Shiraz Burn Hospital during summer of 1395. After confirmation by biochemical tests, The presence of beta-lactamase genes was evaluated by using antibiotic discs and PCR method. Results :78.5% of the isolates had OXA-10 gene, 77.57% of the OXA-2 gene, 34.58% containing Int1, and 95.38% of the samples were MDR.Maximum resistant was seen in cefepime(79.43%) and the minimum was for to tobramycin(10.28%). Conclusion :Class1 integron, 2-oxa and 10-oxa beta-lactamase genes, did not show up a meaningful relationship at the same time.the production of beta-lactamase enhances the increasing resistance and their frequency is increasing according to the results of other studies. This will lead more control over the prescription and use of antibiotics.

Prevalence of Extended Spectrum Beta Lactamases (ESBLs) and Antibiotic Resistance Pattern Acinetobacter Baumannii Strains Isolated from Clinical Specimens in Isfahan City, Iran
Abstract Background and Objective: Acinetobacter species are opportunistic important pathogens responsible for many nosocomial infections. The purpose of this study was to determine the drug resistan pattern Acinetobacter baumannii and prevalence of ESBL producing strains in Intensive Care Unit patients in Isfahan city hospitals. Material and Methods: The study was conducted on 100 Ac...

Pseudomonas aeruginosa isolates 871 and 873 were isolated at Hacettepe University Hospital in Ankara and were highly resistant to ceftazidime (MIC, 128 microg/ml). Each produced three beta-lactamases, with pIs of 5.3, 6.1, and 7.9. The beta-lactamase with a pI of 5.3 was previously shown to be PER-1 enzyme. The antibiograms of the isolates were not entirely explained by production of PER-1 enzy...
full textPrevalence of PER-1- type Extended-Spectrum Beta-Lactamaes in Clinical Strains of Pseudomonas aeruginosa Isolated from Tabriz, Iran
Objective(s) The aim of this study was to investigate the presence of PER-1-type ESBLs in drug resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa isolates. Materials and Methods During one-year period (2008-2009), following isolation and identification of 56 P. aeruginosa, the E-test method was performed for determination of minimal inhibitory concentration of ceftazidim. The isolates that they had MIC≥16 µg/ml ...
full textOXA-10 and OXA-2 ESBLs among multidrug-resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa isolates from North West of Iran
Production of Extended spectrum β-lactamases (ESBLs) is a common mechanism of resistance in multidrug- Pseudomonas aeruginosa, but the frequency of different ESBLs may vary significantly in different parts of the world. The aim of this study was to investigate the prevalence of OXA-2/OXA-10 type ESBLs and class 1 integron among clinical isolates of P. aeruginosa in Ta...
full textOXA-18, a class D clavulanic acid-inhibited extended-spectrum beta-lactamase from Pseudomonas aeruginosa.
Clinical isolate Pseudomonas aeruginosa Mus showed resistance both to extended-spectrum cephalosporins and to aztreonam. We detected a typical double-disk synergy image when ceftazidime or aztreonam was placed next to a clavulanic acid disk on an agar plate. This resistance phenotype suggested the presence of an extended-spectrum beta-lactamase. Isoelectric focusing revealed that this strain pr...
full textAntibiotic Resistance Pattern and the Prevalence of Extended Spectrum Beta-Lactamases (ESBLs) in Urinary Isolates of Klebsiella Pneumoniae
Abstract Background and Objective: Klebsiella pneumoniae is an opportunistic nosocomial pathogen causing a variety of infections including urinary tract infections, pneumonia, septicemia, wound infections and infections in the intensive care units. Since the ESBL producing Klebsiella pneumoniae strains are increasingly causing urinary tract infections, we aim to assess antibiotic resistance pat...
